Belonging to the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) is more than just attending church every Sunday. It allows a person the opportunity to become involved in activites that allows them to explore and strengthen their faith. Several organitzations within the church offer these experiences. Disciples Women's Fellowship
Disciples Women meets March through December the first Thursday of the month. They share bible sessons and devotions and are active in our local Church Women United, as well as contributing to the different projects in the mission field. They sponsor our annual Mother-Daughter banquet in May. They also aid and serve the church in whatever capacity is necessary as well as the community.
Men's Fellowship
Men's Fellowship is an organization that meets every three months with two other Disciples of Christ Churches (Walnut and New Bedford) within the county. Each meeting involves a dinner and a program. They also sponsor a child through Christian Children's Fund.
SHINE Club
SHINE Club (Share His Incredible News Everywhere!) is a children's group for kids in 1st grade to 8th grade. It meets every Wednesday from September to May at 3:15 p.m for one hour. Children participate in Bible lessons, activites, games, and refreshments.
Vacation Bible School
Each year during a week in June, the church sponsors a Vacation Bible School Program (VBS) for kids from Nursery to 6th grade. The week is filled with an assortment of singing, Bible lessons, games & activities, crafts, and refreshments. This fun-filled week is capped off with a special program during the church worship service on Sunday morning.
Potluck Sunday
The church sponsors a potluck dinner the first Sunday of the month from October to May immediately following the morning worship service. You may bring a dish if you'd like but it isn't required. Plates and silverware may be borrowed from the church's kitchen.
Church Board
The church board meets the first Wednesday of every month to discuss church matters and conduct other church business.
As a Part of the Wider Community
The church also donates to various charities and organizations within the community such as The Closet, the food pantry, Special Olympics, Freedom House, the Bureau County Health and Wellness Clinic, Young Life, Princeton Drug Educational Program, and Disciples Home Mission. The church sponsors two children through the Christian Children's Fund and through the ACSI Student Sponsorship respectively. The church also supports various missionaries and special offerings through the Disciples Mission Fund of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Many members contribute their own time and efforts to these organizations, please contact the church if you would like to volunteer to help!
